Read a good book lately? Rooted in God's Love by Dale and Juanita Ryan
Rooted in God's Love is a series of meditations on biblical texts that offer grace and hope to the brokenhearted and the crushed in spirit. Understanding that healing is often a long and difficult journey, Dale and Juanita Ryan speak with open hearts and personal insight about our longing for wholeness, about our resistance to recovery and about reasons for hope along the way. If you have difficulty trusting God's love, or struggle with hopelessness, or experience deep emotional distress, this book will speak directly-with honesty and wisdom-to your need. If you are recovering from addiction, abuse, trauma or loss, then Rooted in God's Love will be a source of encouragement, support and strength for each new day. the church is to be restored to its rightful place of relevance to and preeminence in supporting the care and cure of souls, we must equip and encourage people to offer themselves to others in relationships of soul friendship and spiritual companionship."

MAY 2011 Recommendation - Sacred Companions: The Gift of Spiritual Friendship and Direction by David Benner
"If the church is to be restored to its rightful place of relevance to and preeminence in supporting the care and cure of souls, we must equip and encourage people to offer themselves to others in relationships of soul friendship and spiritual companionship." David Benner has me spellbound from the preface! But how do we become sacred companions ourselves, much less equip and encourage others to do the same? Benner's book invites us explore the meaning of sacred companionship without mincing words about the work required to become this kind of friend to others. It is our book of the month AND will be local home study group study guide in the fall of 2011. It's a four starmust read for folks interested in considering the "how to's" of laying one's life down for a friend without going codependent. I recommend reading it a couple of times before using it in our small group study. It is that good. And that meaty. Enjoy! t
